Rational Approximations for Tomographic Reconstructions

چکیده

Abstract. We use optimal rational approximations of projection data collected in X-ray tomography to improve image resolution. Under the assumption that the object of interest is described by functions with jump discontinuities, for each projection we construct its rational approximation with a small (near optimal) number of terms for a given accuracy threshold. This allows us to augment the measured data, i.e., double the number of available samples in each projection or, equivalently, extend (double) the domain of their Fourier transform. We also develop a new, fast, polar coordinate Fourier domain algorithm which uses our nonlinear approximation of projection data in a natural way. Using augmented projections of the Shepp-Logan phantom, we provide a comparison between the new algorithm and the standard Filtered BackProjection (FBP) algorithm. We demonstrate that the reconstructed image has improved resolution without additional artifacts near sharp transitions in the image.

Rayleigh Task Performance In Tomographic Reconstructions: Comparison of Human and Machine Performance

We have previously described how imaging systems and image reconstruction algorithms can be evaluated based on the ability of machine and human observers to perform a binarydiscrimination task using the resulting images.le4 Machine observers used in these investigations have been based on approximations to the ideal observer of Bayesian statistical decision theory. The present work is an evalua...

Three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction of mesospheric airglow structures using two-station ground-based image measurements.

A new methodology is presented to create two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) tomographic reconstructions of mesospheric airglow layer structure using two-station all-sky image measurements. A fanning technique is presented that produces a series of cross-sectional 2D reconstructions, which are combined to create a 3D mapping of the airglow volume. The imaging configuration is discus...

Block Algebraic Methods for 3D Image Reconstructions on GPUs

This report investigates the possibility of making effective three dimensional tomographic reconstructions on General Purpose Graphical Processing Units (GPGPU). Tomography is a technique to recreate the interior of an object, from measurements of absorbed energy from projections taken at different angles. When these calculations are done on a computer it is called Computed Tomography (CT). Thi...

The best uniform polynomial approximation of two classes of rational functions

In this paper we obtain the explicit form of the best uniform polynomial approximations out of Pn of two classes of rational functions using properties of Chebyshev polynomials. In this way we present some new theorems and lemmas. Some examples will be given to support the results.

An iterative projection-space reconstruction algorithm for tomography systems with irregular coverage

Most standard tomographic inversion methods require many measurements with a regular coverage of the object studied. A new method has been developed to obtain tomographic reconstructions from measurements by systems with a small number of detectors and an irregular coverage. The method reconstructs values on a regular grid in projection space from the measurements on an irregular grid by an ite...
